Wai-keung Leung

Professor Leung is currently the Li Shu Fan Medical Foundation Professor in Gastroenterology and the Associate Dean (Human Capital) of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of the University of Hong Kong. He is also the Co-Director of the Integrated Endoscopy Centre, Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. Professor Leung graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1991 and completed his residency and fellowship at the Prince of Wales Hospital of Hong Kong. He then furthered his training overseas at the Division of Gastroenterology, Baylor College of Medicine, USA. 


Professor Leung has a wide research interest in gastroenterology and endoscopy including Helicobacter pylori and gastric carcinogenesis, inflammatory bowel disease, capsule endoscopy, screening colonoscopy and epigenetic changes in gastrointestinal cancer. He has published more than 230 original articles with a h-index of 62 (Scopus). He is the editorial board member of the Helicobacter, Best Practice & Research – Clinical Gastroenterology, Journal of Digestive Disease and the Chinese Journal of Digestion. He was the Past President of the Hong Kong IBD Society (2013-2015) and the Chair of the Scientific Committee of the Asia Pacific Digestive Week 2017.
